Technology Techniques: Apps & URLs & Social Media – Oh My!

Updated: May 27, 2020

If you think back to the days when all this technology at our finger tips did not exist (or are you too young to recall that), you may get the distinct feeling you are not in Kansas anymore. Hopefully you are not a cowardly lion when it comes to trying new electronic features. Don’t disparage these technology techniques, for they may help you connect with others in the most enterprising ways. ~ David M. Reile, Ph.D.

FOCUS ON: How Do You Focus in an Exploding Tech World?

Data and ideas fly at incredible rates such as 29 million results in .43 seconds (i.e., the time it took Google to generate the results for a search for quotes for this issue). How can there be focus when talking about technology?

This issue was made possible through a review of the tweets of the Technology Twins and their blog. Follow them on Twitter at #TechnologyTwins (aka Debra Osborn and Melissa Veneable).

FOR PRACTITIONERS: Stop, Breathe, Think

Clients are stressed and practitioners may not be available to help as often as expected. Why not teach clients to help themselves? Show them the “Stop, Breathe, Think” app which can guide them through a reflective process. By learning to check their own mental, physical and emotional well-being, followed by guided meditations, it is possible that your client will be better able to focus on their career development. (No doubt practitioners may benefit from “Stop, Breathe, Think” also!) Read more about this app.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: Showcasing Inspiring Techniques

The National Career Development Association 2016 conference included a presentation on virtual reality that proves the career services world as we know it is changing, especially for those who serve students. Practitioners at this conference conversed about enhanced virtual career fairs, virtual internships, and the research that is backing this exploding interest. Read more about virtual reality.

TOP TEN: Career Advice from Women Leaders in Tech

“There’s only one way to get to the top of a ladder, but there are many ways to get to the top of a jungle gym,” Sheryl Sandberg, the Facebook COO, shared. Other leaders’ advice covers embracing uniqueness and opportunities. While this article from MIC only features nine women, CDA Insights will consider this issue (based on the writings of two women) part of the “Top Ten” this month!
